Robinson Brothers Limited are a family-owned company located in West Bromwich in the West Midlands. We are specialists in organo-sulphur synthesis and high-pressure hydrogenation supplying organic chemistry services to a global market in quantities from grams to multi-tonnes. We manufacture intermediates for the Pharmaceutical, Agrochemical and Speciality Chemical industries as well as many others, and our team of chemists are experts in custom synthesis, contract manufacture and process optimisation.

A vacancy has arisen to join the Engineering Department. This is an excellent opportunity to work as the lead of the highly skilled Electrical and Instrumentation teams within a lower tier COMAH facility. The successful candidate will be an experienced, qualified Electrical & Instrumentation Manager, and we are looking for an immediate start.


Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Overall responsibility for the management of the Electrical & Instrumentation departments which includes 14 engineers. Also, contractors, as and when required.
  • Project work – overall responsibility for the design, specification, and installation of all electrical and instrument equipment for new capital & maintenance work and controlling expenditure within authorised budgets.
  • Maintenance operations – overall responsibility for the provision, operation, and development of all Electrical & Instrumentation maintenance systems.
  • Safety, Health & Environmental – To maintain and promote a safe operating culture within the department, ensuring that in all its aspects it operates to the highest levels of safety and meets all legal and statutory requirements, company rules and procedures.
  • Liaison at all levels inside the company. Outside contacts typically include suppliers, contractors and agencies such as the HSE & EA.

Qualifications/Experience

  • A HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Instrumentation & Control as a minimum, ideally a degree.
  • A further 10 years practical experience post qualifications, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role. This must come from an instrumentation & control background.
  • Expert in PLC/HMI programming. Ideally RSLogix 500, Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View.
  • Good understanding of ATEX and hazardous area classification.
  • Good understanding of functional safety within an industrial process plant environment.
  • The job requires a flexible attitude to deal with multiple complex jobs simultaneously to meet the required changes in operational priorities.
  • Fluent in Computerised Maintenance Management Systems.
  • Excellent personnel management skills.
  • Excellent computer skills. AutoCAD, Microsoft office etc.

The salary is negotiable. 25 days paid holiday (and all UK Bank Holidays), a 40-hour working week, ½ hr lunch, Monday to Friday 8am to 4.30pm, paid sick scheme, free life assurance and access to a stakeholder pension scheme, based in West Bromwich, West Midlands.
