Gas Odorant Engineer

We have a vacancy for a Gas Odorant Engineer within the Gas Odorant team.

Robinson Brothers Limited are an independent, family-owned company manufacturing organic intermediates for the Pharmaceutical, Agrochemical, Rubber, Polymer, Food & Beverage and allied industries. Robinson Brothers operate from West Bromwich, in the West Midlands and were established in 1869.

The role is principally responsible for all day-to-day maintenance, forward planning and planed preventative maintenance of Gas Odorant plant and delivery equipment.

This includes:

  • Fault finding and smell investigation on delivery systems.
  • Periodic examination of Hoses, relief valves, ladders/steps and protective devices.
  • Preparation of delivery tankers for 36 and 72 month insurance inspections of delivery vehicle tanks.

In addition the role responsibilities are:

  • Respond to offsite incidents involving delivery systems in UK and R o I at short notice.
  • Stand in for other team members, filling Odorant delivery vehicles/Recharging scrubber, hiring vehicles etc and delivering Gas Odorant to customers sites when required.
  • Escort odorant delivery to Ireland providing support in the event of mechanical brake down/environmental incident during journey
  • Organising accommodation for personnel when conducting operations away from West Bromwich.
  • Transfer to site static storage tanks on Bio-Methane sites.
  • Recharging of Carbon Adsorbers. Decontaminating saturated carbon so as fit for disposal.
  • Supporting Customer technical requirements; Site visits with customers to their sites to assess possible projects; Participating in HazOps/planning of projects with customers; Devising decontamination processes and modus operandi on customer’s sites, writing accompanying method statements/risk assessments/ COSHH assessments to comply with customer requirements; carry out jobs on customer’s site. i.e. Replacement of couplings on customers storage tanks, removal of Odorant, removal of complete odourising system, decontamination of odorant systems.

Applicants should have at least HND qualification in Mechanical Engineer. Ideally experienced in working in chemical plants and with experience or training in:

  • Passport to gas safety certification for working on gas terminals and AGI's.
  • SCO91 training as competent person for acceptance of permit's on customer’s sites.
  • An ADR license (permission to transport dangerous goods by road)
  • Certified for use of Breathing Apparatus both escape and rescue.
  • Banksman
  • Slinging and lifting

The role requires extensive travel across the UK and Ireland; at least 1 trip per week, half of which will involve nights away from home.

We offer an initial salary in the range of £45k, a 38 hour week, 25 days holiday (plus all UK bank holidays), free life assurance cover and generous paid sick scheme (both after a qualifying period).  We also provide access to a stakeholder pension scheme, a voluntary employee benefits scheme and a voluntary medical cash benefit plan.
