Robinson Brothers is an independent, family-owned company manufacturing organic chemical intermediates for the Pharmaceutical, Agrochemical, Rubber, Polymer, Food & Beverage and allied industries.  Robinson Brothers operates from West Bromwich (West Midlands, UK) and was established in 1869.

Our HR Manager will be retiring in the near future and we are looking to appoint his successor. We have over 300 people across our sites in West Bromwich and Daventry.  You will be responsible for both sites and occasional travel to the site in Daventry is required. The majority of your time will be spent at West Bromwich.

You should have extensive HR generalist experience obtained within a manufacturing environment. You will be dealing with all aspects of HR and be used to multitasking and prioritising your workload. You will tackle several one off assignments to support the business.  You will work closely with the management team to set and deliver the people plan. You must have commercial understanding as the people plan is intrinsically linked to our business plan. You must have great communication and influencing skills that work at every level within the organisation.

You will be an expert in employment law and be able to translate complex legislation into easy to understand terms.  You will have experience in dealing with trade unions regarding pay negotiations and consultation around changes to terms and conditions.  You will continue to coach and empower line management.

We are a complex people-driven operation, and you will need to be visible and accessible to the workforce across both sites.  Your induction period will include a lot of time spent on the factory floor and in our laboratories getting a thorough understanding of what our people do and understanding our culture.

You will manage the HR team which includes a HR Advisor, two Payroll Administrators and a Production Training Officer.  Effective management of your team is therefore required.  You should have a good understanding of payroll and pension schemes.  You will report to the Finance Director.

This is a senior position with Robinson Brothers and you will be part of the Senior Management Team where you will have input into all aspects of the business.

You should:

• Be confident and have excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Have a thorough understanding of employment law
• Have great communication, influencing and negotiation skills
• Be resilient through peaks of pressure and used to working to tight deadlines
• Have extensive similar experience in previous manufacturing companies

As well these skills you should ideally have:

• A degree (or higher). This degree does not have to be in HR.
• Level 5 or higher CIPD qualification
• 5 years’ experience in a similar role
• Experience in HR Management Systems
• Proficient with Microsoft software and the ability to effectively manipulate Excel spreadsheets

The salary we are offering reflects the importance of the role –  £45-55k per annum dependant on skills and experience for a 36.25 hour week.  25 days holiday (plus all UK bank holidays), free life assurance cover and generous paid sick scheme (both after a qualifying period).  We also provide access to a stakeholder pension scheme (with a salary exchange option), a voluntary employee medical cash benefit plan and an employee assistance programme.
