Careers in Chemistry: Polymer Chemist

Robinson Brothers currently has a new opening for a Polymer Chemist to join the Polymer Additives Laboratory. This role will be working with the Robac Technology product portfolio, which has a particular focus on nitrosamine safer rubber accelerators.

Nitrosamine safer rubber accelerators are used in everyday consumer items, such as footwear, toys, balloons and automotive components. Click to learn more about the use of nitrosamine safer rubber accelerators.

As a Polymer Chemist, you will be responsible for the development of accelerator systems and polymer compounds for a variety of markets and applications. You will research, analyse and synthesise materials for product, process development and applications. You should have a logical and methodical approach to problem solving as you will be designing experiments to support/disprove hypotheses relating to vulcanisation and material physical properties.

Robinson Brothers requires an experienced Chemist with the view of developing into an enthusiastic Polymer Chemist/Rubber Technologist.

The Polymer Chemist will be required to perform analytical and physical testing of rubber products and raw materials. You will also provide support to Production and Quality across the range of Robac Technology products. As you gain experience, you will be able to relate material properties to real world performance.

The successful candidate will require strong writing and communication skills. The Polymer Chemist will also become a part of the global academic community that supports the rubber industry. You will have the opportunity to attend international conferences, and present academic papers.

Are you ready for your next career move? Does this description matches your skills?

To apply, you should have a degree (or equivalent) in Applied Chemistry or Elastomer Technology. Rubber chemistry experience is not essential as training will be provided.

We offer an initial salary in the range of £20-24k, depending on experience, a 36.25 hour week, 25 days holiday (plus all UK bank holidays), free life assurance cover and generous paid sick scheme (both after a qualifying period).  We also provide access to a stakeholder pension scheme, a voluntary employee benefits scheme and a voluntary medical cash benefit plan.

Interviews will be conducted once suitable applicants are identified.

Applications should be sent to [email protected] with a covering letter.
